Kudos for thinking of Smartmouth for your next event location!  We know that during 2020 there are constantly changing rules and regulations for hosting events.  We believe that it is still possible to have a great event and we are happy to help you make that happen.

In addition to brewing tasty beer for the craft nerds and hop heads of Virginia, we run two tasting rooms in the region: Norfolk Headquarters, nestled in the Chelsea district of Ghent, and the Virginia Beach Pilot House, located just a stone’s throw from the Oceanfront.

Both locations are open to the public seven days a week and pour freshly brewed Smartmouth beers. We go from professional to party animal and regularly host events ranging from office gatherings to wedding receptions and birthday shindigs. We’re lucky to have such accommodating spaces and love sharing them with local businesses and beer fans.

**NOTE**  We are currently maintaining the following Covid-19 procedures. We have to be very careful with our staff that we don’t get exposed and then have to close a location.

    We can accommodate rentals of half of our tasting room, the entire space or just a table or two, depending on the size/needs of your party. Our space rental varies depending on the day/night of the week, the timeframe and the number of people you plan to host. We invite you to come by for a beer (on us) so we can give you a tour of the space.

    NORFOLK WAREHOUSE

    Currently during the Governor’s Covid-19 restrictions we can offer a variety of hosting opportunities in our Warehouse or outdoor spaces.  We have the ability to section groups in different parts of the space depending on the size of the group.  We can host private events, but it requires us to close the warehouse to the public.  We can also reserve tables if you do not require privacy.     What Covid-19 procedures are you following?
    * Only members of the same household can be seated together and there should be 6’ of distance between members of another household.
    * Masks are mandatory while not seated at a table.

    What do you charge to rent the space?
    We’ve make sure that you don’t pay too much for your event. Lots of elements factor into the price, like the length of your event, the day of the week, the time of day and how many guests you anticipate hosting. With just a few specifics from you, we’re happy to promptly provide a quote.
    What if I want to reserve a table at the brewery during normal business hours?
    If your party is on the smaller side, we can reserve a table or two for you with some notice. It is just $25 a table and (depending on the location) can seat from 10-12 people.
    Do you charge per beer or do we buy a keg?
    We have an array of delicious beer to offer your guests. You will have access to our entire menu, and so will be charged per beer.
    What do you have that’s non-alcoholic?
    We stock a variety of sodas, seltzers, juice boxes, and Maha kombucha, brewed locally in Virginia Beach.
    Do you offer any alcohol that isn’t beer?
    We frequently serve a spiked seltzer that we make in-house. Touch base with your party person to see if there will be any available.
    Can we bring wine?
    As beer fanatics, we can’t imagine drinking anything else; however, as humans, we understand that tastes vary. So, you may bring wine, but know that it will entail a little effort on your part. The Commonwealth of Virginia requires that you obtain an ABC banquet license, as our permitting does not cover alcoholic beverages made elsewhere. You can do this online for a fee of $55 with at least three week’s notice. You will need to provide your own cups and have someone available to pour your wine. Our staff is not permitted to handle that aspect of your event. We will add a corkage fee of $12 per bottle to your tab.
    Can we bring spirits?
    Good spirits? Yes (it IS a party, after all), but not the alcoholic variety. You may serve Smartmouth-brewed beverages, or you may bring wine.
    Can we bring children and/or dogs?
    Yes. We have kids. We like kids. We ask that they be supervised and remain in the space that you have rented. As for dogs, they are welcome on our decks, in our outdoor spaces and in the Norfolk Warehouse. Please keep them leashed, of course.
    What are our options for food?
    One of the cool aspects of hosting your event at Smartmouth is the opportunity to tailor it to your liking. You may prepare and bring your own noshes. Or, we can share with you a list of caterers and food trucks that serve a wide range of fare and can customize a menu for your party. Of note, though, please remember to bring containers for leftovers.
    What are our options for music?
    You may connect your device to our stereo system, choose a playlist from our streaming service provider or hire musicians.
    Do you have dedicated parking?
    Yes, and feel free to share these maps of Virginia Beach and Norfolk parking with your guests. Be careful in Virginia Beach, as many of the private lots near us will tow.
    Can we rearrange your furniture to accommodate our group?
    Certainly. We are happy to help you situate our space to your liking. You are welcome to use the tables and chairs that we have on hand. Be sure to discuss your needs with our party person, as you may need to rent additional items to supplement our inventory.
    Can we decorate the space?
    Sure. We just ask that you don’t stick tape to our walls or use confetti or glitter. You’ll need to either clean up the decorations immediately after your party or hire our team to do it for you. Our event planner will help you determine which way to go.
